a-metal AG secures 2.1 million Swiss francs

Zurich – a-metal AG has successfully completed a seed financing of 2.1 million Swiss francs. Now the spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland is looking for new talent for further growth and wants to expand the production of its metal 3D printer.

(CONNECT) a-metal AG, based in Technopark Zurich, has secured 2.1 million Swiss francs in a seed financing round for the further development of a metal 3D printing system, according to a press release. The new funds will be used "specifically for the industrialization of the compact, affordable and easy-to-use metal 3D printing system" and to generate further growth. 

According to Stephan Steiner, co-founder of a-metal, the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH) and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland can take further steps in the company's development and initiate the next phase of growth thanks to the participation of well-known investors. The start-up is using the capital to "scale up production, professionalize its market presence and expand the team in key areas". 

The financing round was led by the venture capital company QBIT Capital. "a-metal brings together a world-class team and innovative technology that removes the cost and complexity barriers of 3D metal printing," says Basel Sbeini, Senior Partner at QBIT Capital. According to the press release, co-investors include Zürcher Kantonalbank, Swissortholab, Kickfund, CADFEM and experienced angel investors. 

According to the company , the 3D metal printer developed and produced by a-metal offers technology for the "ideal introduction to innovative technology without having to invest in a conventionally large, expensive system, corresponding laboratory facilities or expert personnel".

After successfully completing its search for investors, which began in October 2024, the start-up is now looking for talent for customer support, operations and software development with the aim of continuing to grow. Pre-series production has already started. ce/heg
