Auxivo launches multi-purpose exoskeleton on the market

Auxivo is launching a new exoskeleton designed to help professionals handle loads from the floor to the highest shelf. It can be used, for example, in logistics, agriculture or construction.

Auxivo, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), is launching a combined back and shoulder exoskeleton called OmniSuit. This supports users both when lifting loads from the floor and when placing loads on high shelves. This means it can be used in a variety of industries, according to a company media release. Highlighted are logistics, maintenance, manufacturing, construction, cleaning and agriculture.

Overall, OmniSuit helps reduce workload and fatigue and improve work comfort. Gravity is compensated for this. For example, the exoskeleton can reduce shoulder muscle strain by over 40 percent during overhead assembly work. The strain on the back muscles during forward bending is reportedly reduced by over 30 percent.

«The biggest challenge in developing the OmniSuit was that overhead work and lifting activities require a large vertical range of motion for both the upper and lower extremities,» explains Rachel van Sluijs, head of research at the startup in Schwerzenbach. Auxivo's team therefore had to design an exoskeleton that supports both activities well without limiting its users.

The OmniSuit design already has a patent pending, according to Auxivo. The first delivery is scheduled for the second half of October.
