Battery developer BTRY receives 150,000 Swiss francs from Venture Kick

Schlieren/Dübendorf ZH – Venture Kick supports BTRY with 150,000 Swiss francs. The start-up has developed a new type of solid-state battery that can be fully charged in just one minute.

The start-up promoter Venture Kick has awarded the battery developer BTRY in Dübendorf a grant of 150,000 Swiss francs, according to a press release. The cleantech start-up is receiving the investment from Venture Kick to set new standards in energy storage. According to the press release, BTRY has developed a solid-state battery that can be fully charged in just one minute. BTRY is a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa).

In contrast to conventional lithium-ion batteries, which are limited by slow charging times and temperature sensitivity, BTRY uses an innovative solid-state technology, according to the Venture Kick press release. In terms of technology, the new process is based on the stacking of thin-film cells using high-precision and solvent-free processes that have been tried and tested in the manufacture of semiconductors. The batteries created in this way would not only offer fast charging times and high reliability at extreme temperatures, but would also improve economic efficiency and environmental compatibility.

The Venture Kick investment will be used to demonstrate scalability through production on pilot lines, further improve the product offering and accelerate time to market. This will strengthen the basis for a planned seed financing round in the third quarter of 2025.

CEO Moritz Futscher and CTO Abdessalem Aribia founded BTRY in 2023 together with Yaroslav Romanyuk as scientific advisor. "Venture Kick has been with us from the very beginning. This support was crucial for our growth and has helped us to grow from a scientific project into a successful company," CEO Futscher is quoted as saying. ce/gba
