Zurich – Beyond Gravity wants to build its own satellites in Zurich in the future. It intends to concentrate on low-cost satellites weighing around 250 kilograms. The first satellite could travel into space by the end of 2028 if customers place a corresponding order.
(CONNECT) Beyond Gravity intends to develop into a satellite manufacturer. The federally owned space company, based in Zurich, already supplies important components for satellites, such as structures, thermal protection, antennas, solar wings and instruments. In future, it also intends to manufacture the satellites itself.
Beyond Gravity wants to concentrate on low-cost satellites of a medium size of 1.2 by 1.2 by 0.3 meters, which are sent into an orbit of up to 1000 kilometers. The satellites are designed for a service life of at least seven years. On the one hand, they will provide space for Beyond Gravity's own instruments for determining position and time, for electrical signals or for meteorological data collection. On the other hand, it should also be possible to integrate optical and other instruments from third-party providers.
Each satellite is equipped according to customer requirements. "Our customer defines the requirements and we translate them into a cost-effective solution," Oliver Grassmann, Head of the Satellite Division at Beyond Gravity, is quoted as saying in the press release.
Beyond Gravity wants to pool the strengths of its European locations. Construction is planned in Zurich-Seebach. "If the order is placed quickly, we can launch a finished satellite into space by the end of 2028," says Oliver Grassmann.
The satellites should be able to be launched into space by both smaller and larger rockets. ce/ug
