Oetwil am See ZH/London – Sulzer Schmid is now part of RES. The global renewable energy company wants to expand its portfolio of services with Sulzer Schmid’s platform for the fully automated inspection of rotor blades using drones.
The owners of Sulzer & Schmid Laboratories, Tom Sulzer and Christof Schmid, have sold their globally active company to the London-based RES Group. RES describes itself as the world's largest independent renewable energy company. It operates in 24 countries in the fields of wind, solar, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission and distribution. RES plans and realizes renewable energy projects worldwide. Sulzer Schmid specializes in the fully automated inspection and condition monitoring of rotor blades in wind farms using drones. The entire process includes planning, inspection, analysis and reporting.
As both companies announced in an identical press release, RES intends to expand its digital expertise in plant management, operation and maintenance with the acquisition of Sulzer Schmid. Sulzer Schmid will operate as RES with immediate effect. All employees and technologies such as the 3DX Blade Platform and 3DX SmartPilot will be transferred to the energy company. These products will complement its digital portfolio in future.
According to RES, they will allow wind farm operators to gain insights into their turbines, which can be used to define repair work on the rotor blades and plan preventive measures. This should lead to "significant savings" in operating costs and an increase in production. "Our customers can expect continued support and improved services," Sulzer Schmid CEO Tom Sulzer is quoted as saying. "Our 3DX technology will play a key role in the further development of RES' digital solutions. We look forward to this new chapter." ce/mm
