Dübendorf ZH – BTRY has raised 4.6 million Swiss francs in a financing round. This will enable the spin-off from Empa and ETH to realize the industrialization of its ultra-thin solid-state batteries. Potential customers are already waiting with their next-generation devices to enter the market.
(CONNECT) BTRY has successfully completed a financing round. The spin-off of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), which was founded in 2023, received fresh capital of 4.6 million Swiss francs for its ultra-thin solid-state batteries, according to a statement from Empa.
The financing round was led by Redstone VC from Berlin. New investors include Bloomhaus Ventures (Zug), Kickfund and Kick Foundation (Basel), Linear Capital (Shanghai) and the German CustomCells founders Leopold König and Torge Thönnessen. Existing investors High-Tech Gründerfonds (Bonn) and Zürcher Kantonalbank have also re-committed.
BTRY will reportedly use this funding to scale up production on a roll-to-roll production line and develop the prototypes into a market-ready product. Various potential customers are already waiting to enter the market.
The resource-saving solid-state batteries from BTRY are more like wafer-thin foil labels than conventional lithium-ion batteries. They can be fully charged and discharged within one minute. This makes it possible to send various wireless signals directly and without capacitors. They also work at temperatures of up to 150 degrees Celsius without failing or catching fire.
Pascal Stürchler, CEO of investor Bloomhaus Ventures, describes BTRY as a pioneer among European battery manufacturers: "BTRY is a perfect example of Swiss deep tech at its best - research-driven, bold and globally relevant." This is also confirmed by Tianyi Zhou, Principal at Linear Capital: "Innovations like BTRY's show that Europe can compete with advanced materials and precision processes. We see great potential for the collaboration of Asian manufacturing know-how and BTRY's groundbreaking solid-state technology." ce/mm
