Climeworks wins British Airways as a customer

Zurich/London – Climeworks has signed a long-term agreement with British Airways to reduce the airline’s CO2 emissions. After Swiss and the Lufthansa Group, British Airways is the third airline to enter into such a cooperation with Climeworks.

Climeworks has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with British Airways. According to a press release from the Zurich-based specialist for CO2 capture from the air (Direct Air Capture), the British airline wants to use the technology of the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH) to reduce some of its CO2 emissions. Climeworks had previously concluded corresponding agreements with Swiss and the Lufthansa Group.

"There is no way to achieve net zero in aviation without carbon capture. We are delighted to be working with Climeworks, whose Direct Air Capture solution enables a permanent, certified CO2 reduction," Carrie Harris, Director of Sustainability at British Airways, is quoted in the press release. This decision was taken in order to "stimulate the market for carbon capture and lay the foundations for the large-scale changes needed to achieve our climate targets". ce/ww
