Schlieren ZH – CUTISS presents positive results for its Phase 2 study on adolescents and adults with deep burns: denovoSkin skin grafts show only minimal scarring after one year. And the tissue is significantly more elastic than after transplanting the body’s own skin.
(CONNECT) CUTISS also presents positive data on the safety and efficacy of its denovoSkin skin graft. The results of the Phase 2 study on adolescents and adults with deep burns published in the journal "eClinicalMedicine", which is part of "The Lancet Discovery Medicine", show no clinically relevant scars after one year compared to standard treatment with autologous skin. In contrast, the tissue after standard transplantation with so-called split skin predominantly shows tissue-enlarging scarring.
In addition, after one year denovoSkin is up to seven times more elastic than the tissue after a standard transplant. This means that denovoSkin does not cause the typical restriction of movement of skin transplant patients, which results from the shrinkage and low elasticity of transplanted autologous skin and often leads to follow-up operations.
"These results support the potential of denovoSkin to safely reduce skin donor burden and improve long-term scar quality in the treatment of severe burns," CUTISS said in a statement. This publication "represents a very important milestone for CUTISS and provides solid clinical evidence for the field of personalized bioengineered skin replacement". The study was conducted at four locations in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy.
DenovoSkin is a personalized, bioengineered dermo-epidermal skin graft obtained from a small biopsy of the patient's healthy skin and used to produce large quantities of real human skin.
