Zurich/Wolfsburg – Embotech and Volkswagen’s software company, Cariad, have completed a joint feasibility study. With the test, both companies were able to prove that the automated vehicle control system from Embotech with the VW software enables automated driving and parking.
(CONNECT) Embotech, based in Zurich, and Cariad have jointly completed a feasibility study. According to a press release, Embotech's Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM), in conjunction with Cariad's software, allows vehicles to be automatically maneuvered and parked in production facilities and logistics centers.
In detail, the program allows complex driving maneuvers such as reversing and parking in tight spaces, routine orientation in real time, operation in mixed traffic, consistent vehicle control and human-like driving behavior in various situations. The test showed that the joint program could provide support in automotive production and its logistics. The test was carried out with a Volkswagen ID3.
"In cooperation with Cariad, we have demonstrated that our AVM system can manage Cariad's entire multi-brand vehicle portfolio with its software," Alexander Domahidi, CTO and founder of Embotech, is quoted as saying in the press release. "In doing so, we have demonstrated its capability and readiness to operate large production volumes in one of the world's largest and most diverse passenger car ranges." Embotech is a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). ce/ww
