Dübendorf ZH/Schaffhausen – The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) will in future test its drones and robotic solutions under real conditions at various locations in the canton of Schaffhausen. To this end, it is establishing a competence center for sustainability robotics in the canton.
(CONNECT) Empa 's Sustainability Robotics Laboratory is expanding its test and application infrastructure. In addition to the existing facilities in the laboratory and in the DroneHub in the NEST test building on the company's own premises in Dübendorf and in the planned AeroAquaArena in the Innovation Park, a competence center for sustainable robotics is to be established in the canton of Schaffhausen.
Empa and the canton intend to develop, validate and apply robotic solutions in collaboration with Schaffhausen-based companies over the next five years, according to a press release. These include water quality and biodiversity. Suitable locations are equipped with sensor technology for testing.
For Mirko Kovac, Head of the Sustainability Robotics Laboratory, Schaffhausen is the right place for tests under real conditions. "We find the best conditions here: The internationally unique biodiversity with the Rhine and Randen, the strong business location with the many high-tech companies, the short distances and the support from the economic development agency and authorities is exactly what we need to set up our center," he is quoted as saying in the press release. "We have the conditions here to gain experience with our robots - whether they fly or move on the ground or in the water. And at the same time to enter into partnerships with the local economy." ce/ug
