Zurich – The Computer Graphics Lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) is presenting the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered avatar Digital Einstein at GITEX 2025. This is intended to enable realistic, interactive conversations with the legendary explorer, with further historical figures to follow.
(CONNECT) ETH Zurich 's Computer Graphics Lab is presenting its own creation, Digital Einstein, at GITEX Global 2025. The trade fair for start-ups and future technologies will take place in Dubai from October 13 to 17, 2025. The AI-supported avatar of what ETH claims to be the university's "most famous alumnus" combines large language models (LLMs), speech synthesis and realistic 3D animations to engage with guests about the researcher's life, research and personality
The Digital Einstein platform visualizes the avatar on a 102 x 180 x 35 centimetre screen, behind which a high-performance computer with a suitable graphics card provides the necessary computing power. A 100 x 80 x 130 centimeter armchair and a stand-up microphone are also integrated, allowing for conversation in a comfortable sitting position. "Digital Einstein combines state-of-the-art AI, graphics and human-computer interaction to create an immersive experience that combines education, innovation and history," says Rafael Wampfler, Senior Researcher at the Computer Graphics Lab and project manager at ETH.
According to ETH, the technology behind the platform can in principle be generalized for other characters, thus enabling new forms of immersive storytelling for other personalities in the future.
GITEX 2025 is the third trade fair exhibition of the AI avatar, which was already presented to an international audience at GITEX Global 2024 and SIGGRAPH Asia 2024. ce/yes
