ETH supports Switzerland as a center of innovation

Zurich – The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) trained around 4,000 specialists last year and strengthened cooperation between science and politics. It also recognized 46 spin-offs, as can be seen from its annual report.

(CONNECT) In its Annual Report 2025, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) sets out the scope, range and quality of its achievements over the past year. In 2025, it again awarded around 4,000 Master's and doctoral degrees, including the first in the Quantum Engineering Master's program. Almost 100 percent of these graduates are employed as specialists after one year, around 80 percent of them in Switzerland.

For the sixth year in a row, the proportion of women among newly appointed professors was 44 percent, above the target value of 40 percent - "a strong result that makes us proud", ETH President Joël Mesot was quoted as saying in a press release. In October, ETH founded the Albert Einstein School of Public Policy to strengthen cooperation between science and politics. Another new feature is that a sustainability council advises the school management.

In 2025, ETH recognized a record 46 spin-offs. And the Robotics and AI Institute opened its second location at ETH after the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. The university's particular research successes of the year include a micro-robot that transports drugs into blood vessels and then dissolves. Living materials that bind CO2 were also created. And with Apertus, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne (EPFL), together with the Swiss National Supercomputing Center, published the first completely open and multilingual language model, setting a milestone for transparent and diverse generative artificial intelligence.

ETH Zurich generated total revenue of CHF 2051 million. Of this, CHF 1,385 million was financed by federal funds. The remaining CHF 666 million is income from third-party funds. ce/mm
