The young Zurich-based start-up Fabas is committed to growing more plant-based proteins in Switzerland and processes them – right in the heart of the city of Zurich – into fine products. 100% of the ingredients come from Switzerland. The company, founded in 2021, obtains all raw materials directly from the farmers, with whom they also maintain close personal contact. At Fabas, everything without exception is plant-based, locally grown and 100% traceable.
At Fabas, everything revolves around beans from Switzerland. Sounds unsexy, but it’s delicious and also good for agriculture. Beans are not only healthy protein bombs, they also make a valuable contribution to soil health!
From 2022, fabas will grow protein peas and field beans for human consumption in addition to chickpeas. In addition, work is currently underway on a novel protein extraction process for pulses with a view to bringing this processing step to Switzerland.
