K2 Photonics receives seed capital from Singapore

Zurich/Singapore – The Paeonia Group from Singapore is supporting K2 Photonics with seed capital. This will enable the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich to drive forward the development and use of its laser and frequency comb technology for industrial and scientific applications.

(CONNECT) K2 Photonics, based in Technopark Zurich, has successfully completed an early financing round. It was led by the Paeonia Group, a Singapore-based investment holding company that promotes global expansion and provides strategic access to international markets. According to a statement, this funding of an undisclosed amount will help K2 Photonics accelerate the development and deployment of its laser and frequency comb technology for industrial and scientific applications.

K2 Photonics builds on advances in laser physics and noise optimization in femtosecond oscillators. According to K2 Photonics, this enables passive stability, reduces the need for complex control systems and makes frequency comb solutions more practical and accessible for system integrators.

Frequency combs are essential for the precise measurement of time and frequency. They are used in environmental sensor technology, semiconductor characterization, measurement technology and quantum timing systems. K2 Photonics counters the previously large and expensive systems with its compact laser and measurement subsystems with high-quality light properties.

The company, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, currently has installations on four continents and has completed feasibility studies in various areas. "The market for frequency combs and ultrashort pulse lasers is growing, with new applications in sensor technology, quantum physics and telecommunications," CEO Justinas Pupeikis is quoted as saying. "We see this technology evolving from niche research tools to industrial solutions. Our goal is to enable this transition." ce/mm
