Zurich – Marco Hutter is taking over the management of the Boston Dynamics AI Institute in Zurich. At the same time, the co-founder of the walking robot company ANYbotics remains Professor of Robotics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and Director of the ETH Center for Robotics.

According to a press release, Marco Hutter will head the Boston Dynamics AI Institute in Zurich. The first branch of the organization, which was founded just over a year ago in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will begin operations in January 2024. It will serve as the European headquarters. Under Hutter's leadership, it will drive the development of intelligent machines that can operate in the world's most difficult and unstructured environments. Hutter has been a guest researcher at the institute since March 2023.

Hutter is Professor of Robotics at the ETH and Director of its Center for Robotics. He is also a co-founder of ANYbotics, an ETH spin-off founded in 2016. The company develops and sells the four-legged inspection robot ANYmal. According to the information provided, Hutter will work at both ETH and the AI Institute in the future. "I am so impressed by the technical work that Marco and his students have done over the past few years that I am now very pleased that we will be working even more closely together as part of this new agreement," the founder and CEO of the AI Institute, Marc Raibert, is quoted as saying.

The Hyundai Motor Company acquired the robotics company Boston Dynamics 2020, which Raibert founded in 2013. Hyundai and Boston Dynamics invested more than 400 million dollars to establish the Boston Dynamics AI Institute in 2022. ce/mm
