Zurich – One year after its launch, the marko.ch platform reaches over 250,000 visitors per month. Several hundred private individuals already deliver their clothing, electronics or household items to the next user every day. This is also made possible by a logistics partnership with Swiss Post.
Marko.ch sets new records just over a year after its launch. The platform of Marko Switzerland AG, founded in 2021 and based in Zurich, went online on September 7, 2023 and now has over 250,000 monthly visitors. New advertisements with a value of over 100,000 francs are uploaded every day. Almost 100,000 products are available at any one time. According to co-founder Alexander Sutter, the daily broadcast volume has tripled.
The platform combines the basic idea of social networks with a marketplace for used clothing, electronic products and furnishings: Users can follow each other and thus make their own style visible in the marketplace or follow the style of others. "Our aim is to offer the most personalized shopping experience," says Sutter.
Logistics is a challenge here. "The purchase must be as simple and smooth as possible." A partnership with Swiss Post provides the solution: anyone selling on marko.ch receives a letter with a pre-printed shipping label showing the buyer's address. The label is affixed to the parcel and placed in the milk crate, where the letter carriers accept the consignment.
"We entered into the partnership from the outset in such a way that it can always be developed further," says Sutter. The solution is complex in detail, "but very efficient". A great deal of information is processed in the background, and artificial intelligence is also used in some cases, adds Christoph Gfeller, Business Developer Circular Economy at Swiss Post. ce/stk
