Neurimmune Reports Successful Long-Term Study

Schlieren, ZH/Baar, ZG/Cambridge/Boston — Neurimmune successfully completes a long-term study on a device for removing fibrils from the heart. She confirms that his human monoclonal antibody reduces amyloid deposits in the heart in patients with ATTR-CM. No such treatment option currently exists.

(CONNECT) According to a press release, a novel human monoclonal antibody called Cliramitug has successfully completed a long-term follow-up study. It is intended for use in treating the rare disease amyloid transthyretin cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). In this form of amyloidosis, the misfolded protein tranylthyretin aggregates and is deposited in the heart in the form of so-called fibrils (amyloids). This potentially life-threatening condition manifests as progressive heart failure. So far, treatments have been able to slow the progression of the disease, but there is still no drug that can remove these fibrils from the heart. That is what Cliramitug is designed to do.

According to the study, which has now been published, “no apparent drug-related serious adverse events” occurred during treatment with Cliramitug over a period of more than one year. Certain markers indicated a reduction in cardiac amyloid burden, as well as improvements in cardiac biomarkers and cardiac function.

“The time- and dose-dependent improvements in structural, functional, and biomarker endpoints confirm our previous observations and underscore the therapeutic potential of cliramitug as a novel, amyloid-reducing therapy for ATTR-CM,”, said Dr. Christoph Hock, Medical Director at Neurimmunes. “Together with our clinical investigators and collaboration partners at Alexion and AstraZeneca Rare Disease, we are pleased to present the detailed results of the open-label Phase 1 extension study to the scientific community.”

In 2022, Neurimmune entered into an exclusive global collaboration and licensing agreement with Alexion for Cliramitug. Alexion is a subsidiary of the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca that specializes in rare diseases; its Swiss subsidiary, AstraZeneca AG, is based in Baar.
