Nutrai tackles the issue of malnutrition in hospitals. Studies have shown that patients with malnutrition have a significantly increased risk of morbidity, mortality, hospitalization and re-hospitalisation. However, hospital staff lack the time to perform a systematic screening of food intake for patients. To tackle this issue local camera systems are installed in hospital kitchens to record food intake by taking before and after images of the serving. Computer vision and machine learning are then used to process these images to calculate a patient’s food intake. These data forms the basis for the inclusion of nutrition data in the patient information system. In addition, nutritional data should be added as vital parameters available to nurses and physicians throughout a patient’s stay.
