In the latest episode of the podcast Marktplatz Gesundheitswesen, Dr Marcel Rösinger explains how future technologies will prevail as soon as a clear legal framework is created and digitalization offers clear advantages over conventional conditions.
Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt once said, "If you have visions, you should go to the doctor," but we disagree and are certain that visions are crucial to creating positive acceptance and motivation among the population and ultimately driving the digital transformation of our healthcare system as a whole. In the current episode, Dr. Marcel Rösinger is our guest to take a look into the crystal ball together with Alfred Angerer and talk about the Swiss healthcare system in 2050. As a consultant at Accenture, Marcel supports health insurance companies in the areas of process excellence, process optimization, strategy consulting and AI transformation projects, among others, and is therefore an ideal discussion partner for this topic. Based on his expertise, Marcel has also written an article for the newly published Digital Health Report 2023/2024, in which he discusses this future scenario in detail.
This much can already be revealed: A successful digital transformation requires a long-term approach. This does not mean that companies and organizations will have to completely discard their IT architecture within the next two years. Rather, the right attitude, enthusiasm and the right approach to digitalization in conjunction with setting the right course at the right time are crucial. If digital strategies are addressed and internalized at an early stage, both in the short and long term, many players in the healthcare sector will not only have the opportunity to survive, but even to profit.
On the other hand, it should be noted in this context that, from a certain point onwards, it will no longer be a question of will. If the quality of care is to be maintained at a high level in the future and we want to be on an equal footing with our healthcare system - as Marcel Rösinger emphasizes - we are forced to continuously develop ourselves and our healthcare system. This can happen through political pressure from the population due to premium increases and cost growth, as well as through new data usage strategies and centrally designed government digitization strategies.
According to Marcel Röslinger, one thing is certain: as soon as a clear legal framework is created and digitalization offers clear advantages over conventional conditions, many future technologies will prevail. Furthermore, if individuals are able to have full control over their data and decide for themselves which data is shared, this could lead to great success with high benefits for all involved. The biggest levers here will be price and convenience.
Listen to this episode and take a look into the crystal ball! Note: This episode was created as a cooperation between the ZHAW and Accenture as part of the Digital Health Report 2023/2024. Comment from the interview guest: The statement that there would be 15% cost growth is a slip of the tongue, in reality it is 8%.
