In the latest episode of the podcast Marktplatz Gesundheitswesen, René Leuenberger and Alfred Angerer address, among other things, the question of how inefficiencies in healthcare – caused, for example, by complications in the transmission of patient data, reports or laboratory orders – can be prevented in view of the increasing shortage of specialists and the rising volume of patients.
The current episode of «Marktplatz Gesundheitswesen» focuses on the importance of digital health platforms. Alfred Angerer will be welcoming Head of Cuore Platform René Leuenberger as a guest on this topic. René Leuenberger has discovered a passion for digital health through a variety of consulting projects at E&Y and ultimately the pharmaceutical industry. After a skiing accident, René experienced first-hand how much the Swiss healthcare system lags behind other industries in terms of digitalization. During his treatment, he witnessed himself being asked to fill out identical documents with recurring regularity along his patient journey. This only highlights once again that there are too many isolated solutions in our healthcare system that foster inefficiencies and duplication.
Particularly in times characterized by the increasing shortage of specialists and the rising volume of patients, it is important to prevent inefficiencies caused by complications in the transmission of, for example, patient data, reports or laboratory orders. According to René Leuenberger, the wheel does not have to be reinvented to address these problems. The focus should be on networking high-quality providers who already offer highly developed services. However, for this to succeed, a uniform and qualitatively standardized exchange of data is needed. In this case, a digital platform like "Cuore" creates the much-needed bridge between the heterogeneous "island solutions" by bringing providers and users together and thus creating a symbiosis. And that is where the benefit lies. Far from the motto everyone looks for themselves, all actors along the patient pathway should be informed to the same extent about the patients and their complaints.
As with the physical transport of letters from A to B, it is the job of Swiss Post to ensure the secure transport of data from A to B. Analogous to the world of letters, there is also a kind of secrecy of letters. With the provision of the Cuore platform, Swiss Post thus assumes a function as a data transporter. In this episode, you will learn how both patients and providers can benefit from a digital health platform, what requirements need to be met, and the business case behind it.
