Schlieren ZH/Lübeck – Reha-Stim Medtech is leading the research project “GAIT – AI model for continuous therapy optimization in rehabilitation robotics”, which was launched on November 1. Project partners are the Fraunhofer IMTE in Lübeck and the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein.
(CONNECT) Reha-Stim Medtech is responsible for coordinating the recently launched research project "GAIT - AI model for continuous therapy optimization in rehabilitation robotics". The project partners of the Schlieren-based company, which specializes in gait and arm rehabilitation, include the Fraunhofer IMTE for individualized and cell-based medical technology, which is based in the northern German city of Lübeck, and the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, which has sites in Kiel and Lübeck. According to a statement, the project will run for three years and is being funded by the Federal Republic of Germany with a total budget of 2.4 million euros.
The project focuses on support for gait disorders, which occur in the most common neurological diseases such as Mobus Parkinson's or stroke and often lead to falls with serious health and economic consequences. GAIT is developing a data-driven decision-making and support system that uses movement data from rehabilitation robots to identify individual deficits, personalize therapies in real time and continuously optimize them.
Because this personalized rehabilitation technology should be accessible to as many patients as possible, this project is based on modularity. This allows the system to be integrated flexibly and independently of the manufacturer into existing robotics platforms. The research combines mathematical modeling and algorithms, kinematics, kinetics and muscle activity from robot signals in real time with knowledge-based biomechanical models and data-driven artificial intelligence approaches. ce/mm
