Riverkin wins ESA competition

Riverkin is one of four winners of the European-Indian Space Start-up Competition organized by the European SpaceAgency (ESA). In addition to Riverkin, the winners include Apogeo Space from Italy, Spacedreams from France and the Czech company Zaitra, according to an ESA press release. They will all receive sponsorship to take part in the 8th Bengaluru Space Expo 2024 and will be accompanied by ESA members. It will take place from September 18 to 20 in the Indian city of Bengaluru.  

Riverkin has created an ecosystem of water data. It addresses critical water management challenges exacerbated by climate change and population growth. Riverkin's sensor technology, combined with satellite imagery and modeling, is designed to increase the efficiency of operations and manage their water risks while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

The start-up was founded by Jessica Droujko. As part of her doctoral thesis at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), she developed a sensor that can be used to measure and evaluate the quality of river water. In contrast to conventional measuring stations, the ETH researcher's sensor can be installed easily and flexibly, the ETH explains in a press release. In addition, the robust and energy-saving device can measure up to 20 grams of sediment per liter of water. ce/gba
