Winterthur – Scewo has raised 9.2 million Swiss francs in a financing round. The start-up from Winterthur impressed the jury with its stair-climbing electric wheelchair. Scewo intends to use the fresh funds to bring this to the American market.
Scewo AG has raised CHF 9.2 million as part of a Series A expansion financing. The main investor was the German venture capitalist RSBG Ventures, as detailed in a press release.
Scewo develops an electric wheelchair that can climb stairs, among other things. It is not only equipped with two large wheels, but also with extendable tracks. The wheelchair can also be raised when stationary . This allows users to talk to other people almost at eye level.
Scewo intends to use the fresh funds to pave the way for its entry into the American market. The first step is approval by the US FDA. With these plans , the start-up is continuing its expansion abroad. Scewo did not launch its wheelchair in France until the fourth quarter of 2023. The start-up is already active in the German-speaking markets.
Scewo was founded in 2017 as a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH). In April 2023, the start-up opened its own production facility at its headquarters in Winterthur, where it can produce several hundred devices per year, according to the company. ce/ssp
