Seven medtech SMEs receive funding from sitem-insel

(CONNECT) The first seven medical technology SMEs have been selected for the sitem-insel innovation voucher. With this initiative, sitem-insel, together with the SME Promotion Foundation of the Berner Kantonalbank, promotes innovation in the medtech sector. The aim is to support small and medium-sized enterprises in remaining competitive for the benefit of society.

This includes access to clinics and infrastructure, clinical trials, research and development, product validation and assistance with regulatory matters. The right experts take each project to the next milestone. Two projects will be selected for the next phase and will each receive CHF 70,000.

aiEndoscopic, Oral Care Solutions with the Balmo brand and Piomic Medical come from Zurich. AiEndoscopic uses artificial intelligence and robotics to perform or even automate complex endoscopic procedures. Balmo has developed a gel that moisturizes a pathologically dry mouth. And Piomic has built a portable hand-held device that integrates optical and magnetic stimulation technologies and is designed to promote wound healing in chronic leg and foot ulcers.

Rhovica Neuroimaging comes from Bern. Its core technology, SoNa, is an ultrasound-guided catheter system that optimizes the emergency treatment of patients with increased intracranial pressure. DAAV also comes from the canton of Berne. The Biel-based start-up wants to ensure the independence of travelers with limited mobility at airports and provide them with its self-propelled robotic wheelchair DAAV-air.

Raylution and SPIRECUT are based in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Raylution from Sissach is developing an automated system based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for the immediate diagnosis of skin cancer. And SPIRECUT'ssono-instruments are ultrasound-guided, incision-free devices that are used to treat conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and snapping finger. ce/mm
