Suncar launches new electric excavators

Oberbüren SG/Schlieren ZH – Suncar presents new electric excavators in the 6-ton class. Compared to the previous models, the performance, operation and design of the new excavator generation have been improved.

Suncar launches a new generation of electric excavators in the 6-ton class. According to a statement from the electric construction machinery specialist from Oberbüren and its research department in Schlieren, the design, operation and charging performance of the new generation, which will be delivered from the second quarter of 2024, have been optimized.

Suncar emerged from a focus project at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) in 2014. Students of mechanical and electrical engineering developed the world's first electric excavator with a lithium-ion traction battery. The battery capacity of the newly manufactured models has been increased to 126 kilowatt hours, resulting in a longer operating time. This means that the capacity is sufficient for a full working day, according to the press release. An integrated heat pump can also be used to cool the batteries and keep the cabin at the right temperature. Among other things, the new design improves the driver's view from the cab to the rear

"We have continuously expanded our development expertise in the electrification of excavators in recent years," Stefan Schneider, Managing Director of Suncar, is quoted as saying in the press release. "We are thus keeping pace with rising demand and exploiting the considerable economic and ecological savings potential for construction sites in cities and enclosed spaces." ce/eb
