Tethys Robotics secures 3.5 million euros

(CONNECT) The Zurich-based start-up Tethys Robotics has secured pre-seed funding of 3.5 million euros. According to an announcement on LinkedIn, the financing round was led by the Berlin-based venture capital firm Redstone and supported by the Zürcher Kantonalbank(ZKB), the ETH Foundation, Kickfund and Venture Kick.

The company, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, intends to use the fresh capital to improve the technology of its Tethys ONE underwater drone. This is a compact, hybrid underwater robot that can be used both remotely and autonomously. The range of applications extends from automated inspections of hazardous areas to rescue operations and explosive ordnance clearance.

The modular design allows the seamless integration of various payloads, such as sensors, high-resolution cameras, metal detectors and manipulators, according to the company. The possibility of live reporting during underwater operations reduces operating time and costs and avoids risks for divers. By scaling the product, Tethys Robotics aims to strengthen its position in the market for safe and efficient underwater operations. ce/ww
