Tribecraft supports ETH team in solar race in Australia

Zurich – For the first time, a solar car from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) will compete in the World Solar Challenge, which begins in Darwin on October 22. Zurich-based Tribecraft provided the team with upfront support for shaping, CAD modeling, design, engineering and product graphics.

Tribecraft Innovators Designers Engineers are continuing their history in alternative racing: the company, founded in 1999 as a spin-off of ETH, has now also supported the ETH team aCentauri. It will compete in the world solar racing championship, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, on October 22 with its Aletsch solar race car.

The 3000 km race runs until October 29 from Darwin in northern Australia through the hot outback to Adelaide on the south coast. 38 teams from Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and Saudi Arabia are participating. The organizers call it «the world's greatest innovation and engineering challenge, contributing to a more sustainable mobility of the future.»

With the support of Tribecraft's interdisciplinary team, among others, the now 40-member ETH student team succeeded in developing and building a fully functional solar car and bringing it to Australia within just one year. According to Tribecraft, the company provided its expertise in shaping, CAD modeling, design, engineering and product graphics for the project.

In 2005, Tribecraft had already helped ETH to achieve the then world energy efficiency record with the PAC-Car_II in France. The interdisciplinary team of experts works on future solutions for a wide range of industries in its innovation lab.

The aCentauri team aims to win this race, «make a lasting impression on Swiss students and partners, and innovate in the spirit of excellence to represent ETH Zurich and Switzerland as the home of the world's best engineers.» ce/mm/Café Europe
