U-blox announces new infotainment module for cars

Thalwil ZH – U-blox will be mass-producing a new module for infotainment, navigation and telematics in vehicles from the first quarter of 2025. However, the global provider of localization and wireless communication technologies is already offering samples.

U-blox has announced a new module from its own development: the JODY-W6 is a compact dual-band Wi-Fi 6E module with Bluetooth 5.3 including LE Audio. It is aimed at the application areas of infotainment, navigation, advanced telematics and OEM telematics in vehicles.

According to the Wireless Connectivity Market Report by Techno Systems Research, the Thalwil-based company is thus providing the promising and significantly growing market for Wi-Fi 6 and 6E technologies with a corresponding electronic component. Its compact size of 13.8 x 19.8 x 2.5 millimeters is compatible with earlier JODY modules and therefore allows them to be scaled.

In addition to the advantages of Wi-Fi 6E, it also features dual-mode Bluetooth with LE Audio. It is certified worldwide and is available with either two or three antennas. An LTE filter can also be integrated on request. The module is equipped with an integrated AW693 chipset from NXP Semiconductors.

"JODY-W6 is a smart and reliable solution that helps overcome bottlenecks and meets scalability requirements with its highly adaptable, compact size," Sebastian Schreiber Senior Product Line Manager at u-blox' Short Range Product Center, is quoted as saying. "Specific use cases include support for AppleCarPlay and AndroidAuto, personalized entertainment, data offloading and smart/roof-integrated antennas." ce/mm
