Attikon ZH/Steckborn TG – Wegmüller has developed a pendulum unit for Bernina. It transports the slide-on tables of the new Bernina 990 sewing machine from the factory in Steckborn to the powder coating plant at the supplier’s and back again.
The packaging manufacturer Wegmüller AG from Attikon has developed a swing pack on behalf of Bernina Schweiz AG in Steckborn. According to a press release, the prototype for a sample box was developed in close cooperation with Bernina and then thoroughly tested. The final pendulum containers were delivered on time and have been in continuous use since this year.
The reusable shuttle container is used to transport the push-on tables of the new Bernina 990 sewing machine safely from the factory in Steckborn to the supplier's powder coating facility and back again, according to the press release. Incorrect handling could scratch the freshly coated surface. Wegmüller therefore developed a wooden insert and covered it with felt strips.
"Shuttle containers save a huge amount of time when packing and unpacking. And the footprint is minimal," says Chairman of the Board of Directors Marc Wegmüller. The pendulum container is durable and low in CO2. The felt-covered wooden inserts prevented the powder-coated push-on tables from being scratched.
The beginnings of what is now Switzerland's largest manufacturer of wooden and cardboard packaging date back to 1912. In the municipality of Gachnang near Frauenfeld, Hans Wegmüller ran a restaurant next to a sawmill. He supplied nearby food businesses with wooden rakes. In 1922, Wegmüller relocated to Attikon near Winterthur in order to be closer to the industrial companies in the canton of Zurich.
Wegmüller AG celebrated the centenary of its site on November 3, 2022. Managing Director Marc Wegmüller described the Attikon site "at the heart of Switzerland's economic engine" as the "packaging capital of Switzerland". ce/gba
