ZHAW examines possibilities for Agri-PV in the canton of Zurich

(CONNECT) Researchers at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences(ZHAW), which is based in Wädenswil with its Department of Life Sciences and Facility Management, are supporting a feasibility study for the use of photovoltaics on agricultural land in the canton of Zurich. According to a press release, the ZHAW is launching the Agri-PV competence booster project on behalf of the Canton of Zurich's Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air (AWEL).

As part of the study, the university is supporting ten farms, each with an individual feasibility study. This involves analysing areas and crops, assessing yield options, checking grid connections and permits, and calculating profitability and market opportunities. Additional options and battery storage concepts can also be included as an option. According to the press release, 90 percent of the costs will be covered thanks to the support of the AWEL. Each participating company receives an individual report.

The researchers had already investigated the possibilities of photovoltaics on eight agricultural areas in advance. Taking into account agronomic, technical and economic aspects, they identified a high potential for this form of energy production. ce/ww
