Kloten ZH – The cleaning team at Zurich Airport is now being supported by two robots. Zulu and Charlie take over the cleaning of large areas. With this pilot project, Flughafen Zürich AG wants to find out how robots work in crowds.
Check-in areas and airport shopping at Zurich Airport are no longer cleaned by humans alone. The 300-strong cleaning team at Flughafen Zürich AG has received support from two robots. Zulu and Charlie are tasked with cleaning large areas.
"Our aim is to gain experience and understand how the robots work in crowds," Daniel Ammann, Head of Facility Cleaning at Flughafen Zürich AG, is quoted as saying in a press release issued by the airport operator. In particular, Ammann wants to find out "how they move, how they interact with passengers and employees and vice versa".
Passengers are invited to communicate with the two robots named after letters in the aviation alphabet. To do this, a QR code on the front of the machines must be scanned. You are then shown a selection of questions that Zulu and Charlie can answer. ce/hs
