Zurich startups win at TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards

Schlieren ZH – Haya Therapeutics emerged as the winner of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards 2023. Planted Foods and Yokoy took second and third place, respectively, meaning that the three sectors of biotech, foodtech and fintech are represented at the top of the Swiss Startups.

The jury of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards 2023 honoured three startups as the best in Switzerland at startup space in Schlierem. The biotech company Haya Therapeutics from Epalinges VD took first place, followed by the foodtech company Planted Foods from Kemptthal ZH, according to a media release. Yokoy came in third.

Haya Therapeutics, Planted Foods and Yokoy are on average four years old, have created more than 520 new jobs and raised a total of CHF 237 million in investments, according to the press release. The fintech company is based in Zurich. The 13th edition of the competition was again organised by Venturelab and Swiss Venture Club.

The winner, Haya Therapeutics, develops precision medicines. The main candidate against cardiac fibrosis is currently in the preclinical phase. The startup from Vaud was founded in 2019 and came eighth in 2022.

Planted Foods makes plant-based protein from 100 per cent animal product-free ingredients. The vegan meat alternatives contain no additives. The startup was founded in 2019 and also landed in second place in the previous year.

Founded in 2019, Zurich-based fintech company Yokoy is last year's winner. It uses artificial intelligence to automate the entire process for corporate spending and corporate credit cards.

A jury selects 100 startups that are no older than five years. "The ranking reflects the strength of the Swiss startup ecosystem and shows the diversity and strong technical background," TOP 100 programme director Stefan Steiner is quoted as saying. ce/gba/Café Europe
